Pelion is a place on immense natural beauty and charm, and is the perfect destination for holidays and travel throughout the year. The entire peninsula is one filled with lush and rich vegetation, creating a truly magical landscape. There are many villages and towns scattered all over the region.
The traditional Pelion village of Milies is one of the most famous in the region, and is located approximately 28km from the city of Volos, at an altitude of 400 meters. It is a village that many visitors to the region will head to - as it is home to the charming railway station, where the famous Pelion steam train arrives from it's unique and magical journey from the coastal town of Lehonia.
Milies is the perfect village to visit in Pelion, and here you can enjoy the beautiful setting, and explore this very important and historic village. There are many interesting places that one can visit, such as the church of Pamegiston Taxiarhon, which was built in 1741, and from which the revolution against the Turks started in May 1821 under the leadership of Anthimos Gazis.
Another place worth visiting is the "Old Library", which is home to a large number of old books, documents, maps and other such items related to the Greek revolution. Situated close to the library is the main square of the village, and here you can take a seat in the shade and enjoy a refreshing drink or light snack.
The famous Pelion steam train of "Moutzouris - Smudgy" is of course a particular highlight of Milies, and no visit to Milies is complete without stopping by at the railstation. Here you might see the arrival of the train as it completes its journey from Lehonia. All visitors to Pelion should try to find the time to enjoy this magical rail journey, as you will pass through some wonderful scenery along the 16km journey to / from Lehonia.
